Introduction To Lisp by Dana Nau. his note covers the following topics: LISP’s influence on other languages, LISP applications, Common Lisp, Launching Allegro Common Lisp, Lists, Lisp Functions, Compiling, Editing Lisp files, Macros, Lisp Operators, Loops, Debugging, Allegro debugging commands, Functions of sequences.   Land of Lisp the music video! Introduction • Chapter 1 About. In this book you'll learn the C programming language and at the same time learn how to build your very own programming language, a minimal Lisp, in under lines of code! We'll be using a library to do some of the initial work, so I'm cheating a bit on the line count, but the rest of the code will be completely original, and you really will create a powerful. The introduction piqued my interest, because it said it sourced material from DARPA work. I read chapters , because the other stuff in the book was either elementary to me (the first chapters are introductory Lisp), or stuff I wasn't interested in. I'd call this more an elementary artificial intelligence book/5.

Lisp is the second-oldest high-level programming language after Fortran and has changed a great deal since its early days, and a number of dialects have existed over its history. Today, the most widely known general-purpose Lisp dialects are Common Lisp and Scheme. Lisp was invented by John McCarthy in while he was at the Massachusetts. There's also an O'Reilly book on writing Emacs extensions which is a good introduction to writing modes etc. in Emacs Lisp. Having said all that though, for learning Emacs itself (as opposed to Emacs Lisp) I really recommend the excellent Mastering Emacs book.

It is not intended to be a comprehensive account of the language for, in our experience, it takes only a little introduction before most Lisp programmers are able to turn to Guy L. Steele, Jr.’s, Common Lisp: The Language (2nd. ANSI Common Lisp is a book for Lisp beginners.

It has a nice example of writing a simple ray tracer in Common Lisp, and another (rather dated) example of using macros to generate HTML. ANSI Common Lisp combines an introduction to Lisp programming, and a convenient, up-to-date reference manual for ANSI Common Lisp.
